As of 2017, Korea has succeeded in developing 29 new medicines since the inception of Sunpla Injection (SK Chemicals) in 1999, an anti-cancer medicine and Korea’s very first locally developed new medicine. Korea also developed 82 incrementally modified drugs by the end of 2016. Of the 29 new medicines, a total of 8 new drugs have been approved by the US FDA and 9 new drugs have also been approved by EMA as of March, 2018.
